Keep Columbus Beautiful Week
April 20 to 26
Mark your calendar for the third annual
communitywide clean up and beautification blitz. What started as a class
project for University of Iowa graduate students has become a tradition.
The week includes some large group events but the potential for the
largest impact lies with individual households and businesses. Keep
Columbus Beautiful week organizers encourage everyone to use this week
to recycle, donate, and dispose of unwanted items and to clean up, fix
up and beatify their homes, business, yards and gardens.
KCB week will kick off with a Make a Good First
Impression Clean-up on Saturday, April 20th. This is an
expansion of last year’s county road clean up. This year other high
viability areas including The Swinging Bridge will be added as
volunteers become available. The more people that show up the more that
will get done. Volunteers are to meet at the north parking lot of
Columbus High School at 8 am; activities will be finished before noon.
People interested in volunteering or being team leaders for specific
locations should contact Brian Cummings at 728-2750 or Mallory smith at
728-7971. The rain date for the Clean-up is Saturday, April 27.
Monday, April 22, Earth Day, will be Columbus
Junior High’s annual Keep Columbus Beautiful Service Project. Student in
7th and 8th grades will canvas the community in
the afternoon dropping off free marigold seeds, picking up litter and
sharing information about recycling, donation and disposal options
available to residents. The rain date for this event is Wednesday, April
24.
Friday, April 26 is scheduled for the citywide
clean-up. |
