Use the Columbus Junction Community Development Center to help publicize
events, recognize volunteers and donors, and build more awareness for
your organization and the services it provides. The Community
Development Center offers various communication opportunities: the
city’s website, a weekly enewsletter, local access cable, a bulletin
board at the Civic Center, three facebook pages and You Tube channel.
Below each is described along with submission recommendations.
www.columbusjunctioniowa.org
The City of Columbus Junction website consists of general information
and links that are useful to residents, business owners and visitors. A
link to your website or listings of your annual events might be great
additions. Visit the site, see how your organization might best be
included and send your recommendations to
cdc@columbusjunctioniowa.org.
Weekly enewsletter
A one-page newsletter is emailed to 170 subscribers weekly usually on
Thursday afternoons. Notices of events, tips for parents, home owners,
and business people; descriptions of agency services and hours as well
as announcements of new staff would all be of interest to newsletter
readers. Please email your information to
cdc@columbusjunctioniowa.org, email text and fliers that lend
themselves to transferring information via copy and paste are the best
options.
Local Access Cable
Local Access Channel 7 is available to all Mediacom subscribers in
Columbus Junction, Columbus City and Fredonia. The programming cycles 24
hours a day and is updated weekly. Local Access Channel 7 offers a
mixture of basic information—church listings and City Hall hours for
example; notices of upcoming events; photos from recent events, photos
of local interest and quizes. Local Access Channel 7 uses powerpoint to
display information but you do not need to submit powerpoint slides.
Email press releases, fliers and photos as attachments or send
information directly as the text of an email to
cdc@columbusjunctioniowa.org.
Bulletin Board
The Civic Center is high traffic location and the bulletin board across
from the City Hall entrance is a great place to share information. Take
advantage of it to post event fliers, volunteer needs, application
forms, deadline notices for programs and grant applications, as well as
brochures. Stop by and post information yourself, email items to
cdc@columbusjunctioniowa.org for printing and posting or drop off a
supply of printed materials at the Community Development Center office.
The bulletin board is updated weekly.
Facebook
The Community Development Center manages three facebook accounts.
Columbus CommunityDevelopment is the general one used to share
office information. Columbus Farmers-Market is used primarily to
connect with market vendors and customers. It is active seasonally
spring through fall. The City of Columbus Junction is a group
site used mostly to recruit and coordinate volunteers for service
events. Like us, post, tag us!
You Tube
The Columbus Junction Community Development Center with technical
assistance from Kathy Vance, Louisa County Extension recently created a
channel that can be found at
http://www.youtube.com/user/cj52738. Our first goal is to share
basic information about the city in English, Spanish and Chin. We also
have a great video of a work day at Chautauqua Park that does a good job
of capturing the spirit of our community. If you have videos that you
think would be good to share on our channel please contact the Community
Development Center.
