The City of Columbus Junction has a
property tax abatement program to encourage new construction and
improvements to existing properties. The tax abatement is available to
residential and commercial property owners within the Columbus Junction
city limits to reduce their property taxes. The application must be
submitted to the City Clerk and approved by the City Council and the
County Assessor.
Eligible Projects
New construction of
residential or commercial structures
Rehabilitation and
additions to existing residential or commercial structures
Actual value must
increase at least 15% due to the improvements
Exemption Period is
5 years
First year 75%
Second year 60%
Third year 45%
Fourth Year 30%
Fifth year 15%
Applications are taken on an ongoing basis
Application must be filed with the City Clerk at
City Hall 232 Second St.
