City Government
City government is
mayoral/council with a number of committees, boards and commissions,
click here for a list. The Board of Supervisors governs Louisa County.
CITY
HALL—the Columbus Junction City Hall is located on Walnut Street east of the
post office. The hours are from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Monday through Friday. The phone number is 728-7971. City Hall handles sewer and
water hook-ups, garbage and recycling tags, and building permits.
COURTHOUSE—The Louisa County courthouse is located at 117 South Main Street in
Wapello. Residents can register to vote in the auditor’s office. The auditor
may be reached at 523-3371. Property taxes are paid and license plates are
obtained in the treasurer’s office. The phone number is 523-4451.
Land
transfers are made at the recorders office, 523-5361. The clerk of court, who
issues marriage licenses, may be reached at 523-4541. A driver’s license is
issued, renewed, or duplicated at the Louisa County Court House in Wapello.
LAW
ENFORCEMENT—Columbus Junction has three full-time police officers and three
volunteer reserve officers. Columbus City and Fredonia are part of the Louisa
County Unified Law Enforcement (ULE) system dispatched through the sheriff’s
office in Wapello.
MUNICIPAL
SERVICES—Water and sewer hookups are required in Columbus Junction. Information
and billing is handled through City Hall. City water is tapped from the Jordon
aquifer and treated with a Zeolite softening system and fluoride is added at the
water treatment plant. Columbus Junction furnishes water to Columbus City.
POST
OFFICE—Post Offices can be found in Columbus Junction, Conesville, and Columbus
City. The Columbus Junction Post Office is located on the corner of Second and
Walnut Streets, and may be reached at 728-2512. Window hours are from 8 a.m. to
4:30 p.m.
